How to write a CV for the Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar)
Gulf employers recruit from all over the world, so they want to see quickly who you are, where you are and when you can start. A Gulf CV is in English and usually includes more personal details than a European or US CV.
At a glance
| Length | 2–3 pages |
|---|---|
| Photo | Common; a professional photo |
| Personal details | Nationality, date of birth, visa status, current location, driving licence; marital status often included |
| Language | English (Arabic as a plus) |
The rules that matter
Visa status and location
Say where you are now and your visa: “Based in Dubai, employment visa (transferable)” or “Based in Istanbul, available to relocate”. Recruiters filter on this.
Notice period
Write when you can start: “Notice period: 30 days” or “Available immediately”.
Personal details are normal
Nationality, date of birth and a photo are common in the Gulf. Add only what you are comfortable sharing.
Licences and attestation
Mention a GCC driving licence and professional licences (e.g. DHA, MOH, SCFHS for healthcare). Say if your degree is attested.
Gulf experience first
If you have worked in the region, make it visible. Name the country with each job.
Languages
English level, Arabic if you speak it, plus your native language. Multilingual staff are valued in customer-facing roles.
Clear achievements
Use short bullet points with numbers, like a UK or US CV. Long paragraphs are skipped.
